Although it is most famous in Arabic prose, it is based off of a Persian story book named The Thousand Tales. 1001 Nights story is a collection of different tales all woven together to create one whole story. Within the woven stories, the main character in the previous story became the narrator in the next story. These tales were unrealistic and unlikely to happen in the real world. All of the tales teach a lesson and express a general truth of life.
At the beginning of the story, there lives a woman-hating king named Shahiyar. He hates women so much, Shahiyar marries a new woman each night and has them killed the next morning. A princess named Shaharazad is chosen as Shahiyar's next wife. Princess Shaharazad does not want to die the next morning, and she thinks up a sly plan. In order to prolong her death, she begins by telling Shahiyar a tale. Shaharazad witholds the end of the story until the next night.
